All his siblings were adopted out to Aunts and Uncles when his mother died in 1918 shortly after his youngest sister Helen was born. Joined the US Marine Corps in 1925 (yes, at age 14 he was 6' tall) and served 4 years overseas (Boxer Rebellion in China and various campains in Central/South America) Was a Sargent in the Honor Guard and recieved is HS diploma while in the service. The marines changed his name to Raymond John Wood. Upon discharge he returned to Indpls., IN and worked in then purchased a bakery.
